Mainstreaming Genetic Testing

Genomic testing is now an essential part of our healthcare. Use of genomic testing has routinely been done by specialist clinical genetics services that are staffed by clinical geneticists and genetic counsellors. Given the increase in importance of genomic testing in healthcare, new models of care are needed to meet service demands.

Mainstreaming occurs when genomic testing is offered to a patient by a non-genetic healthcare provider as part of routine care. Our team is leading several studies on mainstreaming genomic testing across several areas of healthcare including for:

  • Familial Melanoma

  • Paediatric inborn errors of immunity

  • Paediatric hearing loss
